It is a sweet follow up to the book Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side. After finishing that book, I was hoping there would be a sequel.

Being a novella there wasn’t much drama to add to the plot of the book, it was basically the tale of the wedding and the preparations leading up to it. Lucius is my ideal picture of a vampire, with glimpses of a human soul, but also the ability to be cold in a way that he can distance himself from all emotion and attachment.

Jessica Packwood was adopted in Romania when just an infant. As the novel begins, we find her living happily on her adoptive parent’s farm in rural Pennsylvania. Jessica is your average teenager. She gets along with her parents, does her chores, and is not afraid to get dirty mucking out horse stalls. Although a very pretty girl, her dating life is nonexistent.

We find out she has yet to even experience her first kiss. However, the wheels are in motion for all of that to change. As she steps out of her house the first day of school her senior year, she is unnerved by a creepy guy staring at her intently from across the street– He was standing under a massive beech tree across the road from me, his arms crossed over his chest. The tree’s low, gnarled branches twisted down around him, nearly concealing him in limbs and leaves and shadows.
